Assist villages in the developing world to become poultry egg producers - Egg Module operations also aim to stimulate the local economy

Though designed for the developing world we need this in Greenwich.

The Egg Module

The Egg Module is focused on providing NGO's (Non-Governmental/Profit Organizations), MFI's (Micro Finance Organizations) and Social Entrepreneurs with  the tools to develop and manage small scale poultry operations. 

The Egg Module provides a dynamic cash flow forecasting model that helps to detail the financial requirements to establish and operate chicken egg production businesses in the developing world.

This innovative social entrepreneurial concept aims to achieve the following objectives.

1. Assist villages in the developing world to become poultry egg producers.
a.    The main objective is to reduce food insecurity and malnutrition, especially in children, by providing an adequate and reliable supply of eggs (protein) to local markets in the developing world.
b.    Egg Module operations also aim to stimulate the local economy by adding value to agriculture outputs and provide an expansion strategy to facilitate a transition from subsistence farming towards commercial production.

2. Provide the tools and context to research and understand market conditions in specific villages.
a.    Primary research includes such qualitative factors as: market conditions for feed and eggs, land availability, access to population centers, and local supplier availability.
b.    A design experiment methodology is used to estimate cash flow projections and capital requirements for individual villages. Multiple scenarios are tested to create quantitative financial projections to more accurately forecast performance under volatile market conditions.

4. Promote green building and sustainable business practices.
a.    Chicken coops are designed in a way that facilitates the transfer of green building practices and encourages the use of local building materials.
b.    Commitment to environmentally sensitive agriculture practices is also considered when analyzing potential project locations.

3. The Egg Module is a scaleable, sustainable and replicable business model.
a.    The egg module starts as small 50 birds and provides a scalability strategy to can help develop commercial operations at the village level.
b.    By defining best practices in we aim to introduce management oversight is provided to develop leaders and entrepreneurs in the village. Operational management oversight and guidelines are provided through partnerships with non-profit and private sector organizations.
c.    Align economic incentives to encourage process control and expand business operations.  Villages that demonstrate best practices will be highlighted and given opportunities for investment.

5. Drive accountability by leveraging transparency created by Web 2.0 Internet sites.
a.    Web 2.0 sites include: Flickr, You Tube, Facebook, Linked in and others.  These tools add a new level of transparency will allow us to publicly track progress.
b.    Content, including: photos, drawings, videos, blogs will be created either by the villagers or through tourists/volunteers who visit the village.
c.    Egg Module volunteers will help optimize social media and website design. Focusing on social media optimization for all Egg Module partners and participants.
d.    The Egg Module will be an open platform allowing anyone to contribute.
